Joints are construction units that divide up the pavement to absorb movements from the various elements it supports.
In the project of a paving with natural stone have to consider the following typologies of joints:
- Division or dilatation joints. His placing in a paving depends of the stone´s termal coefficient, of his sensitivity to the water (moisture expansion), and of the support deformability. His depth has to affect to the thickness of the slab and to the adhesión material, and his width has to be, at least, of 10 mm.
- Intesection joints are joints with hard elements, such as partitions, walls, pillars, ect.
- The joint seals are constituted by the free space between contiguous pieces. His width in inner pavings does not have to be lower of 1 mm, and in external pavings of 3 mm.
The materials for joints have to be deformable, resistant, have good adherence, resistant to the atmospheric agents and of cleaning, waterproof when it require and with good durability.
These can be of distinct types, like elastic joint fillers for onsite application, deformable or skid prefabricated profiles, metallic rigid profiles, etc.
The materials for boards of union between pieces, is recommended that are specific products for this function.
Two independent profiles and flexible filling
