- Urbanisation of the Campus of the Bierzo, Ponferrada -
Name: Urbanisation of the Campus of the Bierzo, Ponferrada
Architect: DMG Arquitectura + Estudio Guadiana S.A.
Builder: F.C.C.
Project date: September 1999 - June 2002
Granite: Celta black finishes sawn and bush hammer dressed
Description:
Topographic planning of the site is done using parallel roadways and successive terraces that colonise the slopes without affecting their nature, within a progressive transition from a net urban city environment to the grassland parks that colonise the countryside

Both, the proposed architecture and development, have a clear symbolic component for recovery of traditional building typologies and landscape.

Materials such as black slate from Bierzo for walls and the sandy walkways reinstate a natural relationship with the environment, as well as the application of muddy concrete that characterises the buildings and which is also used on the steps of the development site in combination with Celta black granite pavements and linings.

Lastly, a continuous, green and natural perimeter space is defined. This borders the University premises up to Santo Tomás and integrates the existing flowerbeds as a continuous and gardened "belt", as a preview of the Campus' naturalist and pleasant vocation.
