Setts may be placed upon a previously compacted sand bed or upon mortar.

The pointinf can be realised with sand or with pointing material specific for this end:

The sand pointing is done by sweeping the granular material over the sett surface until it penetrates sufficiently. The excess sand should also be removed by sweeping.

Once the sand pointing is completed, vibrating compaction of the pavement must be done using vibrating plates coated with neoprene or vibrating roller compractors.
